An ultra-modern educational facility in Tunga Zongo Community in Dansoman, Accra, was recently commissioned. The Vice President of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia commissioned the project, which included complete rebuilding and modernizing of a dilapidated classroom at Tunga Community Islamic School.

The project was funded by the Zongo Development Fund (ZDF). The latter is a development agency established by the Akufo-Addo administration. The aim of the agency is to guarantee inclusive and sustainable development in Zongos and other poor areas. According to Bawumia, the support of initiatives like this demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing high-quality education, through the ZDF.

The construction of educational and health infrastructure for Zongos has reportedly been encouraged since the ZDF was formed. In addition, the agency has made many Zongos eligible for financial aid for their schooling and businesses.

Dr. Bawumia lauded the ZDF’s effects on communities, which are in line with the NPP Government’s intentions. In addition, he highlighted a number of these initiatives along with their locations in Zongos nationally.

Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed the government’s dedication to expanding educational access. He also noted that given the huge rise in Senior High School enrolment as a result of the Free SHS policy, it is important for the government to expand access at all levels.

“In this regard, the government has initiated the construction of one Model Senior High School in each of the 16 regions. We are working diligently to ensure the commencement of three of the schools this year.”
