US$ 27m Mediclinic hospital under construction in South Africa

South African property developer and investor Atterbury is currently constructing a US$ 27m Mediclinic hospital in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The 15 000sqm facility will help boost the world-class medical facilities in the Winelands community.

Atterbury Western Cape Development Manager Gerrit van den Berg, confirmed the reports. He said that the current development is their first.

“This is our first project for Mediclinic, and it is an exciting development for Atterbury. We look forward to delivering a modern, sustainable health care facility. We expect it to support Mediclinic in bringing even more of the best available care to this community,” he said.

“As Stellenbosch is a very historic town, Atterbury has taken special care to get the relevant approvals. This include environmental, rezoning, and building plans,” notes van den Berg.

The modern new building

The modern new building will meet Mediclinic’s specifications and also has special design features that reflect its unique location. Apart from that, it is an eco-friendly building which inspires wellness.

It is also water efficient due to a grey water system, water harvesting and drought resistant gardens which require minimal irrigation. At the moment, the surface beds and construction of the first floor of the main building will be soon be complete. Moreover, construction is moving to the decking of the second floor.

The new hospital will house over 100 beds and include a 24-hour emergency centre. It will also comprise of four theatres, reception, gardens, coffee shop, and a pharmacy.

Its departments will not only cover general surgery but also medical patients, ophthalmology, urology, ICU, general theatres, radiology, day clinic facility and, in its second phase, gynaecology, maternity and paediatrics.

Completion date

The construction of Mediclinic Stellenbosch began in May this year, and the new hospital is scheduled for completion in March 2019.
