Road construction work to start off in mid-March
If the weather permits, March 17 will see the ground-breaking of the US 160 Pagosa Springs downtown reconstruction project.
The start of the project will mainly see the removal of the existing striping, installation of barriers on Main Street and some changes to traffic flow.
Bi-lane traffic will be maintained while those off the Main Street will move onto the eastbound lanes. This will also allow for the removal of the westbound road surface, sideways, and curbs. Work on utilities will also be done in phase one of the project. This will include revamp works on water, sanitation, sewer, gas, and communication lines among others.
Entails of the US 160 Pagosa Springs reconstruction project
The downtown road reconstruction project by the CODT will include several key upgrades. Replacement of the asphalt with concrete comes first. This is aimed at increasing the road’s durability and longevity.
The project will also incorporate flashing signs near the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th Streets. Alongside the upgrade to the pedestrian walkway will be the improvements to the sidewalk ramps as indicated in the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Also benefiting from the road revamp will be motorists and the locals in general. This will be appreciated by the fact that there will be installation of textured skid resistance surface, and that upgrades will be done to underground utilities.
Entails of the Harman Park Dr/ Piedra Rd Intersection section
Construction of this bit has been scheduled for 2026. Once construction starts, there will be replacement of the existing islands with more expanded ones. These will also feature ADA ramps. A new sidewalk north and south of the Piedra Rd Intersection will also be constructed. More features of the improvements include better signaling technology with count-downs and push buttons.
