Construction of a new terminal at the Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, Morocco, has officially been launched. The US$1.5 billion project was announced by Office National des Aéroports (ONDA) and is expected to accommodate 20 million passengers annually by the time it is completed. Additionally, the H-shaped terminal will feature direct connection to the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail line (LGV). The completion date for the terminal has been set for 2029 and is part of the country’s Airport 2030 strategy. The strategy aims to strengthen Morocco’s position as a strategic aviation hub for global exchanges.

Details on the new terminal at Mohammed V Airport
Along with the announcement came details on the billion dollar project. The design of the airport is said to have the passengers comfort in mind. There will be three main levels and green spaces will be incorporated in the form of oases, VIP lounges, commercial zones and a large duty-free area. Furthermore, there will be a hotel with rooms offering views of the runaways at the airport. As for the structural details on the airport, the terminal will extend beyond the main building to include a parallel runway measuring 3,700 metres by 45 meters. There will be associated taxiways and additional aeronautical infrastructure such as the new 42-meter high control tower. In addition, there will be new aircraft parking areas constructed on the premises.

The date for completion of the terminal is also in alignment with the country’s goals for preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
