Plans are underway for the redevelopment of The Backyard, a 35-acre outdoor entertainment complex, into a mixed-use complex in Bee Cave which will be renamed Backyard at Bee Cave.

Backyard Partners LLC recently submitted permits to begin construction of the initial phase of development, with plans to break ground by year end and open the Backyard at Bee Cave by early 2024. Preliminary plans for the project have been approved by the Bee Cave City Council.

Located at 13801 Bee Cave Pkwy., near RM 620, the 35-acre site is to be redeveloped to include a 3,700-seat amphitheater, event venues, office space, food concession and retail areas, a 150-room boutique hotel, and open green space.

The  96,000 square feet mixed-use complex dubbed Backyard at Bee Cave, will have its live music area revamped as an event venue with a food, beverage and retail area, and a multi-purpose lawn with a 500-square-foot performance stage. This new concept, according to Backyard representatives, will encourage more frequent use of the venue, by more suitable options to enable the hosting of private, public and civic events.

Project plans will also involve two office space areas, with each office area occupying up to 90,000 gross square feet and the site’s location is northwest of Willie Way, a road connecting The Backyard with Texas 71.

Two parking garages will also be built close to the office buildings, with one garage occupying 360,000 square feet and the other 300,000 square feet. These parking garages will be made available to Employees and visitors during the day and on weekdays.

Design plans for the boutique hotel located in the office area will include an exhibit hall and meeting space, a spa, pool, business center, concession and fitness areas.

Backyard partner and co-developer Christi Van Rite pointed out that Backyard music venue was not the only thing Bee Cave city was known for, but it usually comes to mind for those with nostalgic feelings, of listening to music under the stars and under the big live oak trees for many years. She also spoke about bringing back the iconic venue to provide more value to the community.

Van Rite said, “Bringing this iconic Texas music venue and doing it in a way that supports the community of Bee Cave and really becomes the living room for e city.”
