A US$126 million road construction contract has been awarded by the Illinois Department of Transportation to Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives (IEA). The contract includes the reconstruction of the I74 and I57 motorway junctions and the replacement of the entire existing trefoil junction with a semi-directional highway junction consisting of two-loop ramps, two-way flyovers, and two outside ramps in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. in August 2021 and should be completed in November 2023. Proposed improvements include milling and resurfacing the sidewalk and hard shoulder, building six new ramps and reconfiguring the ramp and sidewalk of six new bridges, and improving drainage and safety, among other things necessary to complete the planned improvements.

This project is part of the Rebuild Illinois Capital Program, which will see the state invest $ 33.2 billion in Illinois transportation over six years to create jobs, improve safety, and fuel the economic growth of Illinois. Highways and 7.9 million square feet of state bridges are being renovated or rebuilt. Rebuilding the I57 / I74 interchange is one of the largest investments in central Illinois under the Rebuild Illinois program.
