New Jersey-based (Wind Turbine Energy Corp) WTEC Energy Innovation is planning on setting up their Wire Manufacturing plant in Chamberino, New Mexico. WTEC Energy, who are renowned producers of steel wire cables used in powering solar and wind energy units; intend on renovating a former pet food processing plant in Chamberino, Doña Ana County, which has been vacant since 2014. The company plans to move into the facility after the  renovations are complete and start production of steel-wire cables. WTEC Energy also has future plans of using the facility to manufacture wind towers.

WTEC Energy Innovation was able to purchase the vacant 68,000-square-foot warehouse in Chamberino, with support from the state and county and the company has also received financial aid in the form of (Local Economic Development Act) LEDA incentives worth about $2 million. In addition, El Paso Electric New Mexico Economic Development has also decided to contribute $100,000 towards financing the project.

WTEC expands into New Mexico

This new site will serve as the company’s new base of operations for its Wire Manufacturing plant in Chamberino. The State and local leaders are excited about WTEC’s expansion into New Mexico, as this development will result in  315 new manufacturing jobs and is expected to have an economic impact of upto $409 million over the next decade. According to the  state’s Economic Development Department, annual salaries will start at $37,000 and all 315 vacancies are expected to be filled by 2027.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, attributed this new development in New Mexico to the favorable policies of the region. Grisham pointed out that WTEC is coming to build their Wire Manufacturing plant in Chamberino and also providing 315 new manufacturing jobs, due to the state’s commitment to supporting manufacturing businesses. He explained that Southern New Mexico’s continued support for manufacturing businesses has helped in diversifying the economy and boosting energy innovation and transition.

Sarah Cottrell Propst, the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Director for the state also said that WTEC’s expansion was a good sign for New Mexico’s growing renewable energy sector. She spoke highly of WTEC’s new Wire Manufacturing plant in Chamberino and pointed out that this development would ensure the creation of more positive economic opportunities across the state.
