Zimbabwe has officially commissioned state-of-the-art Victoria Falls International Airport following completion of renovation and refurbishments.

The renovation that was being done by Chinese based Jiangsu International Economic and Technical Cooperation Group was aimed at ensuring the airport gets its world class looks and infrastructure.

Speaking during the function the officials from Jiangsu International said that they were looking forward to deliver the project on time of which they did and they look forward to work on more other projects from the region.

The official added that the airport now looks elegant and its structure now meets international standards.

“We are happy to work on the airport upgrading and we will ensure that we maintain our reputation of delivering project of high quality on time.

The construction and refurbishment was made possible by a $150 million concessional loan facility provided to Zimbabwe by the China Export and Import Bank in 2012.

The Airport upgrading work involving civil engineering commenced back in 2013 and that paved way for the construction of the new four-kilometre long and 60 metres wide runway, an international terminal building, a fire station, control tower and installing of state-of-the-art specialist aviation equipment.

While commissioning the upgraded airport, President Robert Mugabe praised China Jiangsu International for enhancing cooperation between his country and China.

The president added that they are impressed as the country of the work that has been done in the country and he will ensure that they company continue helping his government in implementing key projects that are wanting.

“Our Chinese friends have been with us for a short time but they have been able to deliver key projects that are key to the country and more so the transport industry” he added.

The president said that he is looking forward to pump more funds towards the transport industry that needs to be streamlined.
