Nordex and Alliant Energy have struck deal to supply 190 wind turbines for future wind power projects across the US Midwest, including Iowa. The deal for the supply of models N133 and N163 (Delta4000 series) is however subject to regulatory approvals. Once installed and operational from 2028 to 2029, the turbine fleet in the US Midwest and Iowa could deliver up to 1,060 MW of wind capacity. Additionally, as part of the deal, Nordex will restart manufacturing at its West Branch, Iowa facility. This is a manufacturing hub majoring in drivetrains and nacelles production locally. The restart of Nordex’s Iowa facility will create dozens of manufacturing jobs and also support economic development.
The Nordex-struck deal also marks the largest US volume award for the energy company in its 25-year American history. It also points toward renewed investor interest and manufacturing sector confidence in large scale wind deployment ahead of the 2029 installation window.

Nordex and Alliant Energy in Iowa, and the Midwest Energy Landscape
The 1 GW wind energy addition to the Midwest grid means a meaningful contribution to decarbonization efforts in the region alongside projects like the Red Rock wind energy center. The increase in renewable capacity also comes at a time when fossil fuel plants in the region are going into retirement as nuclear plants are being revived, like the Palisades in Michigan and new small modular reactors buildout in North Dakota.
