However, the company failed to begin construction within the contractual timeframe. Consequently, the state government terminated the agreement after repeated delays stalled development.
Later, the government reconsidered the project structure and regional demand. Subsequently, authorities invited consultants to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for a revised airport concept serving multiple districts.
Meanwhile, residents across Vijayanagara and Koppal continued demanding improved air connectivity. Therefore, policymakers began exploring a regional airport capable of serving the broader northern Karnataka region efficiently.
