Renewables developer Origis Energy and Advantage Capital have closed a US$265 million tax equity commitment to fund the development of 96 MW Whistling Duck solar project in Levy County, Florida, and the 209 MW Walker Springs I and II solar projects in Clarke County, Alabama. The three southeastern solar projects continue to increase Origis’ portfolio in the United States. The Advantage Capital announcement also comes after the developer signed a similar deal for Wheatland solar farm in Indiana, a signing that significantly expands its renewable energy capacity in the country. The agreements also makes a statement on the growing confidence that the private sector has in U.S. renewables.
Projects Overview
The financed projects – Whistling Duck solar project in Florida, and the Walker Springs I and II in Alabama are slated for commercial operations start by late 2025 through 2026. According to Origis, Whistling Duck and Walker Springs I expect to come online by late 2025, while Walker Springs II will start renewable energy generation in early 2026.
Origis Energy and Advantage Capital Tax Equity Agreement
Tax equity financing for large scale solar projects in the U.S. continue to increase. This is largely driven by favorable tax credits and a growing demand for cleaner energy. Also in the picture is the increasing interest from large financial institutions that often represents long term, stable money. By backing these projects, Advantage Capital and Origis are aiming to deliver ‘cost competitive, domestically sourced’ solar power while also supporting local economies across rural communities.
