What are the new technologies with regards to building automation?

There is always new technology being presented in the Smart home automation industry, one of the most popular at the moment is definitely voice control, being able to talk to your home and request that it change lighting scenes, open or close curtains, gates or doors, turn on TV’s or play your favourite music play list in a desired location is definitely up on the what’s hot in the smart home chart. Provided you have all the smart home devices installed, adding the voice control is also a relatively inexpensive option to add.

How have they been received in Africa?

So far very well, we are currently adding the voice control option to a number of our passed clientele home systems. Everyone loves the idea of, “hands free” control.

What are the factors to consider when selecting building automation?

Definitely to appoint an accredited installer with a proven track record, we have seen some really disturbing installations in the past. Don’t always go for the cheap rout, sometimes spending a little more with the rite company can save you both headaches and money in the long run. Be clear of what you want from your solution now, and what you might like to add later, we call this future proofing. We always say at Touch Home Technologies, the most expensive conduit or cable to run is always the one you forgot to…

What are the proper steps to consider with regards to building automation installation?

This can be quiet a tricky process, I think having a clear idea of your system goals is a great start, be very clear of how you would see yourself operating the system on a day to day basis. Again, ensuring you have an installer that will be present on the site/project frequently, frequent site visits are a must both with all contractors and home owner. Things change quickly with construction sites and everyone needs to be working off the same plan, being a custom smart home integrator means we will be working with all the major contractors on sit, so clear plan and timelines are very important. Ensure lightning protection is installed, this hardware is no cheap so protect it.
