Perth Airport Terminal 2 Expansion and Upgrade Project begins

Home » Perth Airport Begins Terminal 2 Expansion Project

As part of its multi-billion-dollar investment program, Perth Airport has commenced a major expansion and upgrade of Terminal 2 (T2). The project aims to support the airport’s rapid growth in passenger numbers while enhancing the overall travel experience. This follows the trend set recently by Sydney Airport terminal redevelopment project which was unveiled last month and which is its largest since expansion since the Olympics.

Expansion to Meet Growing Passenger Demand

The upgrade will nearly double the passenger capacity of Terminal 2, which currently serves Perth Airport’s growing regional routes.
Chief Executive Officer Jason Waters said the investment is essential to meet increasing regional demand.

“These works are critical to support our growing regional passenger base as it will almost double the passenger capacity within Terminal 2,” said Waters.

He noted that regional passenger numbers have grown 3.7% year-on-year, rising from 6 million to 6.24 million travelers.

“This growth is positive for the Western Australian economy, the resources industry, and regional tourism — reinforcing Perth’s role as a key aviation hub,” he added.

Key Features of the Upgrade

The Terminal 2 upgrade includes several major enhancements:

  • New self-service check-in facilities

  • Expanded passenger screening area and departure lounge

  • Extended baggage make-up hall

  • Design and upgrade of the southern passenger walkway

In addition to the T2 works, Perth Airport’s wider capital projects program will include:

  • Construction of new car parks and access roads

  • Upgrades to retail and food & beverage outlets

  • Enhancements carried out within a live operating environment to minimize disruption

Managing Construction with Minimal Disruption

Waters acknowledged that the scale of the project will result in visible construction activity within the terminal. However, he assured passengers that Perth Airport and its partners are taking steps to minimize inconvenience.

“We are working closely with our partner contractor Hoskins on complex staging and logistics to ensure minimal disruption throughout construction,” he said.

Brett Hoskins, Managing Director of Hoskins Contracting, emphasized their commitment to keeping the terminal fully operational.

“This project highlights our strength in managing complex staging and logistics at one of Australia’s busiest airports. Our team will work closely with Perth Airport to deliver an enhanced passenger experience while keeping Terminal 2 operational,” Hoskins said.
