A Scottish company, ILI Group, has unveiled plans for three new “hyper scale” data center clusters across Scotland. The company said the buildings will stand among the largest hyper scale data center clusters globally. It will create what it calls “The Stoics”, a $20 billion green digital network spanning the Central Belt. A spokesperson for the Hamilton-based company said: “The projects, named after Stoic philosophers, are located in Fife, called Cato, East Ayrshire, called Rufus, and North Lanarkshire’s Aurelius. Moreover, each project has secured a grid connection, land rights, and has now entered the planning process.
Once complete, the Stoics will form a digital corridor of opportunity designed to facilitate the rise of AI. Furthermore, it will facilitate advanced connectivity and the broader technology economy while being anchored in Scotland’s abundant renewable energy resources. Britain is making commendable steps in its data center projects with some such as the Teesside data center project taking shape, expected to be Europe’s largest.
Significance of Scotland’s Data Center Clusters
Once complete, the data center clusters in Scotland is expected to facilitate thousands of construction jobs at peak. Furthermore, there will be significant supply chain opportunities for local businesses and services and the move. By linking Fife, East Ayrshire, and North Lanarkshire, The Stoics will create a new strategic digital hub for Scotland. It will also promote renewable energy and be positioned to meet the surging demand from AI and next-generation digital services. These projects will provide the digital backbone needed to power the rise of AI and advanced technologies.

Furthermore, it will create a Green Digital Network that delivers jobs and investment. It also ensures Scotland leads in the global shift towards a sustainable digital future. According to the company, the data cluster would be among the largest in the world. The firm also claims the project will bring in tens of billions in private investment, along with thousands of construction and tech jobs.
