Populous-Designed 5,000-Seat Concert Hall Set to Open in 2027 at OCVIBE Entertainment District in Anaheim, California

A new mid-size concert venue designed by Populous is set to open in early 2027 as part of the expanding OCVIBE entertainment district surrounding the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The 5,000-capacity concert hall will become the first venue of its size in Orange County and a major addition to the region’s live entertainment infrastructure. Developers say the project will help strengthen Orange County’s position as a year-round destination for touring artists, live performances, and large-scale events.

OCVIBE mixed-use development

Planned as part of the 100-acre OCVIBE mixed-use development, the stand-alone venue will host a wide range of events including concerts, comedy shows, televised productions, esports competitions, sporting events, speaking engagements, and private functions. The flexible design aims to combine high-end production capabilities with improved guest and artist facilities.

Eric Bresler, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at OCVIBE, said the new venue will create an integrated environment where performers can grow their careers within a single entertainment campus.

“Artists won’t just play at OCVIBE, they’ll grow here,” Bresler said. “With the addition of the concert hall, we’re creating a rare ecosystem where an artist can move from an intimate club to a mid-size room to a major arena. All within one connected campus designed to support long-term touring relationships.”

The concert hall will become part of a broader performance network within the district. Emerging acts will be able to start at the 300-capacity Golden Bear venue. Planned to open in 2029, progress to the new 5,000-seat hall, and ultimately headline the 18,000-seat Honda Center arena.

Venue operators say the design prioritizes artist comfort and backstage functionality. The facility will include dedicated dressing rooms, private artist suites, crew amenities, and an open-air courtyard designed to give performers and touring crews a more relaxed backstage environment.

“The backstage experience is intentionally different,” said Tina Suca, Senior Vice President of Venue Operations. “Every element—from acoustics and sightlines to artist flow and shared spaces—was designed to create an environment where performers and crew can settle in and deliver unforgettable shows.”

Architectural design

The venue’s architectural design takes inspiration from musical instruments and sound amplification. The building will feature a compact seating bowl engineered to provide clear sightlines and an immersive listening experience for audiences.

A sound system from L-Acoustics will power the venue, delivering consistent audio quality throughout the hall, according to project planners.

Julie Rinaldi, Principal at Populous, said the design balances technical performance with the open-air lifestyle typical of Southern California venues.

“We designed an intimate seating bowl with outstanding acoustics so every guest feels connected to the stage,” Rinaldi said. “At the same time, the artist environment—including open-air spaces and private suites—embraces the Southern California climate and the way live music happens today.”

A distinctive exterior feature of the venue will be a 62-foot-tall steel art installation known as “Stretto,” located at the southeast corner of the building. The sculpture will act as a visual gateway between the concert hall and the district’s surrounding Urban Park while expanding OCVIBE’s growing collection of public art.

At its base, Stretto Café will operate as a daily gathering space linking the venue with the wider entertainment district.

Hospitality

Premium hospitality offerings will include a dedicated entry and private access to The Gallagher Club, an exclusive guest area designed to enhance the event experience from arrival to departure.

Christopher Mead, Chief Marketing Officer at Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., said the partnership reflects the company’s support for next-generation entertainment venues focused on guest experience and community engagement.

Beyond concerts, the venue will help support a broader mix of events planned across the OCVIBE campus. Which aims to bring together sports, live music, dining, cultural programming, and public gathering spaces in a single district.

When the first phase of OCVIBE opens in early 2027, it will introduce several major elements including the new concert hall, Katella Commons market hall, The Weave office building, and the district’s Urban Park, along with additional dining and entertainment amenities.

Developers say additional details, including the venue’s official name and programming lineup, will be announced in the coming months.

The OCVIBE concert hall development reflects a broader national trend of investment in mid-size live entertainment venues. Designed to attract touring artists and support growing cultural districts. Similar efforts are emerging in other cities, including a proposed 2,500-capacity Bentonville Ballroom music venue. Planned by Live Nation Entertainment in partnership with The Momentary in Bentonville, Arkansas. Projects like these highlight how communities are expanding live music infrastructure to boost tourism, support local economies, and create new destinations for entertainment and events.
