A new Blue HTC Twister diamond-media maintenance pad for retail applications that offers the dual benefits of cleaning and maintaining high traffic floor areas is being exclusively launched in South Africa in mid-2015 by Superb Flooring Systems, a subsidiary of the Pan Mixers South Africa (PMSA) Group of Companies.
Warehousing, supermarket and logistics applications are high traffic areas that require regular cleaning and maintenance to retain their ‘as new’ appearance and to prevent any long-term degradation or damage. The latest Blue Twister pad meets these diverse requirements in a single diamond-media maintenance pad.
The Twister cleaning system consists of floor pads containing billions of microscopic diamonds that clean and polish the floor mechanically, says PMSA sales and marketing manager Quintin Booysen. “The system does not make use of any harmful chemicals. It uses water as its primary cleaning agent, which poses a major environmental benefit as well as reducing overall costs for end users.”
It is ideal for most common floor surfaces such as terrazzo, ceramic tiles, linoleum, vinyl/plastic, natural stone and concrete. When used in high-traffic areas such as in retail applications, or even metro stations, such floor surfaces have to be cleaned and maintained regularly. “The Blue Twister pads have been developed specifically for uncoated, hard resilient floors. A single pad has a lifespan sufficient to cover up to 45 000 m2, which makes it an extremely cost-effective option,” Booysen adds.
The traditional method of flooring maintenance has always been to add a polish layer on top in order to give it a shiny appearance. Cleaning on a regular basis, however, does not prevent the ultimate deterioration of this layer. Hence the floor quickly loses its shiny appearance and becomes more susceptible to both scuff marks and more permanent damage in the long term.
“The answer to this perennial problem has simply been to reapply the surface polish layer. What this means is that such floors require regular periodic maintenance. By upgrading the floor itself, the Twister cleaning system drastically reduces this need for periodic maintenance,” Booysen explains.
Epoxy-coated floors are common in warehouse and logistics applications. Many manufacturers recommend using diamond-media maintenance pads for such surfaces.
