The Engineering Council Of Zimbabwe was formed in order to provide for the registration and regulation of the practice of Technicians, Engineering Firms and Engineers in Zimbabwe. The council also seeks to regulate the engineering profession and create a good environment to undertake its functions.

The Engineering council of Zimbabwe has the following functions
  1.  Evaluate, monitor and uphold the standards of qualifying criteria or examinations, courses and training set or offered by constituent bodies.
  2.  Take such steps as appear to Council to be necessary or desirable to advance the standing and effectiveness of the engineering profession in Zimbabwe.
  3. Ensure that constituent bodies have adequate procedures to enforce ethical practice and discipline among Engineers and Technicians registered under the Engineering Council Act.
  4.  Maintain the Register of Engineers and Technicians.
  5.  Promote the view of the engineering profession on national, regional and international issues.
  6.  Encourage manpower development to meet the requirements of the engineering profession in Zimbabwe.
  7.  It also considers and administers applications for registrations;
  8.  Provide for the accreditation of college-based courses.
  9.  Issue practicing certificates to registered persons and to cancel or suspend such certificates.
  10.  Encourage cooperation between constituent bodies in matters of common interest.

Moreover, the registration and practicing certificate applications will be sent through the constituent bodies of the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe.

A registration application should:

state the basis of the  qualifications  and also  accompany it  with the copies of such certificates or other documents as are to support those qualifications be accompanied by the appropriate non-refundable fee as prescribed in the first schedule.

Additionally, the application should be in English and only competent authorities should do  all translations of certificates and transcripts.

The council will decide upon an application for registration within 60 days from the date of receiving the application. Channeling of Temporary registration applications will also be through the normal-application procedures in compliance with the Engineering Council Act.
