Graduate Engineers in Kenya are required by law to register through the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) which is constituted under Section 3(1) of the Engineers Act 2011 Laws of Kenya.

The Board has the overall mandate of developing and regulating engineering practice in Kenya. The development and regulation of engineering practice is considered a key component to the achievement of infrastructure foundation under the country’s Vision 2030 development blueprint.

The Board is a successor to the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) established by the Engineers Registration Act, Cap 530 (1969).

The Board is mandated with the responsibility of regulating standards in the engineering profession and building capacity for individual engineers and engineering firms. The Board also registers engineers and engineering firms and regulates their conduct for improved performance of the engineering profession

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR REGISTRATION AS A GRADUATE ENGINEER

Fill in the Application Form; available on http://ebk.or.ke/ or at the EBK’s Customer Information Desk.

Attach the required documents: the documents should be certified by the Commissioner of Oaths.

These documents include:

• Copy of Degree Certificate and other relevant academic certificates
• Copy of KCSE Certificate
• Copy of National Identity Card (ID)
• Two colored passport photos
• Applicants should deposit KSh. 1,000 for application fee at EBK’s Bank Account. We do NOT receive cash.

Drop your application together with the Bank Slip at the Customer Information Desk.
After the Bank Slip has been receipted, you will be given an acknowledgement letter showing that you have applied as a Graduate Engineer and your application is awaiting processing by the Board.

The Board will approve/reject the application; the applicant will be sent a letter indicating that his/her application has been approved/rejected.
The applicants whose applications are approved will thereafter be issued with Registration Certificates.

  1. How much in particular is the registration fee? I hear of 1000bob, sometimes 4000bob!
