A Masdar-backed joint venture has partnered with Cairo-based Hassan Allam Utilities to develop a 1 gigawatt wind project along the western coast of the Gulf of Suez in Egypt.

Infinity Power, a joint venture between Egypt’s Infinity and the UAE’s Masdar, and its partner have signed a power purchase agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for the Ras Shokeir wind project.

Location

The wind farm will be developed across 143 square kilometres in Ras Shokeir within the Gulf of Suez region. This region is one of Egypt’s strongest wind corridors. Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power more than 1.2 million Egyptian homes while avoiding over 1.36 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

Furthermore, the Ras Shokeir wind project is part of Infinity Power’s goal to achieve 10 GW of operational renewable energy capacity by 2032. This was revealed by Infinity Power’s chairman Mohamed Ismail Mansour.

Funding and Timeline

However, no financial details or a timeline for completing the project were disclosed.

Moreover, in July 2025, the Egyptian cabinet granted a “golden licence” to the UAE’s Masdar for its new wind power project in the country.

Also, in August 2024, Infinity Power, a joint venture between Egypt’s Infinity and Masdar, signed a power purchase agreement with the EETC for its 200 MW wind farm.

Masdar to Develop Solar Power Plants in Egypt

Furthermore, in September 2024 Masdar received approval from the Egyptian government to invest more than $900 million in building solar power plants. These projects will have a combined capacity of 1GW and will be located primarily in Upper Egypt.

Lastly, Egypt plans to accelerate its solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects as natural gas production declines. It aims to increase renewable power generation to 42 percent by 2035.
