SolarMax Secures EPC Contracts for Two Utility-Scale Battery Storage Projects in Puerto Rico

SolarMax Technology Inc. has inked engineering procurement and construction contracts for two utility-scale battery-based storage projects in Puerto Rico. The two projects will offer 400 MWh capacity as they are located in the Humacao and Ceiba municipalities.

The contracts with Yabucoa BESS LLC and Naguabo BESS LLC are expected to contribute approximately $158.3 million to SolarMax’s revenue. Along with the EPC service offerings, the company is also purchasing an equity stake of 9% in the project entities.

As part of the contracts, SolarMax will provide comprehensive EPC services for the design, engineering, procurement, construction, testing, startup, and commissioning of the energy storage facilities. These energy storage systems will be designed to store renewable energy during periods of off-peak demand.

SolarMax, which conducts operations in the United States as well as in China, primarily deals in the area of solar power, batteries, as well as the operations of solar farms. The company’s operations in the United States entail the sale of solar power and battery backup systems, while in China, the company is involved in the administration of solar farm projects.

These two battery storage projects will expand SolarMax’s utility-scale business in Puerto Rico, which indicates the increasing use of grid-scale energy storage in the region.

Meanwhile, in Texas, the SOSA Energy Center has entered construction in Madison County, adding 150 MW of battery storage to the ERCOT North market. This is in addition to the recently commissioned Muskegon Solar Energy Center. These developments highlight the growing deployment of utility-scale energy storage across U.S. markets.
