Suzlon has secured a 100 MW onshore wind energy project by Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) to power a petrochemical plant in Maharashtra. The award also continues to reinforce the Indian multinational wind turbine manufacturer’s position in the country’s renewable energy sector. This is especially marked by its long-standing partnership with the state-owned energy company.
The 100 MW wind energy project award is Suzlon’s sixth repeat order from GAIL and its fourth public sector undertaking (PSU) contract in FY26. The project is under development in Nandurbar district, Maharashtra. Under the contract scope, Suzlon will handle turbine supply, erection, commissioning, and operations & maintenance of the wind farm. Additionally, the 100 MW wind energy project by Suzlon for GAIL will consist of 47 S120 wind turbine generators rated at 2.1 MW each.
The Maharashtra wind project win also had a positive market reaction, with Suzlon’s share price rising by 3 percent as markets open.
Why is the 100 MW wind energy project win by Suzlon for GAIL important?
India’s renewable energy landscape continues to expand rapidly as part of the government’s commitment to reduce carbon intensity and meet climate targets by 2030. The growing emphasis on renewable energy development is also largely driven by energy security concerns. This is as global energy markets continue to reel from recent geopolitical aggression affecting major oil producers and critical Middle East transport routes.
Wind energy, as one of the most mature and cost-effective technologies in the renewables mix continues to support India’s objectives by providing steady grid-connected capacity. The 100 MW wind energy project by Suzlon for GAIL also continues to grow Maharashtra’s wind portfolio. The state has become a significant wind power hub with over 2.2 GW of installed capacity in the region.

Furthermore, Suzlon’s repeat engagements with key PSUs like GAIL is a show of deepening trust in its end-to-end wind solutions. This is after the turbine manufacturer won a 381 MW wind energy contract from Zelestra spread across three Indian states in August last year. The 100 MW wind energy project development also strengthens Suzlon’s presence in integrated supply, installation, and lifecycle management services. These segments are also increasingly being valued by large industrial consumers looking to transition to cleaner energy systems.
