TotalEnergies and Aljomaih Energy & Water (AEW) have secured license to develop, build, and operate a 400 MW solar PV plant project in As Sufun, Hail Province, Saudi Arabia. The award was made by the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC). It featured under Round 6 of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). Electricity generated from the plant will also be supplied to SPPC. This is under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

As Sufun Solar Project will connect to the grid by 2027 and supply renewable electricity to an estimated 68,400 households. It forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to diversify its energy sources and cut carbon emissions in line with its Vision 2030. Vision 2030 targets up to 50 percent of power generation from renewables and storage systems.

Award of the As Sufun project also reflects Saudi Arabia’s positive reception of its renewable energy strategy under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). The NREP seeks to expand the Kingdom’s clean generation portfolio through successive competitive bidding rounds.
