USACE has provided more insight into the $9bn “Project Skye” data center campus by Google in Chesterfield County, Virginia. In a further filing shared with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Google provided more information about the campus. According to the filing, Project Skye will sit on land south of Genito Road, east of Moseley Road, and north of Duval Road. The property spans also 887.7 acres.

Moreover, the company is aiming to develop five data center buildings on the site, along with three substations. Other works will include parking, roads, utilities, and stormwater management facilities. Chesterfield County sits just southwest of Richmond, towards the central-eastern portion of Virginia. Google first announced plans to develop in Chesterfield in 2025 as part of a $9 billion investment program in Virginia. The firm’s pursuit of the campus has been public since at least November 2025. Amazon is also progressing its Energy Way Tech data center campus in partnership with Duke Energy. The project is set for a public hearing as state regulators aim to advance the project’s air quality permits.

Other Google Data Center Projects in Virginia than “Project Skye”

Other than “Project Skye” data center by Google in Virginia, the firm is also focused on other projects in the state. It is developing Project Loch on land near Midlothian on land west of Route 288 and south of Route 60, between Otterdale Road and Old Hundred Road. The other includes Project Peanut near the Meadowville Technology Park outside Richmond. The company also has sites across the rest of the state.

It operates one cloud region in Virginia that launched in 2017. After buying land in the county in 2017, it launched its first self-built facilities in the Old Dominion in 2019. A second facility in Loudoun County also launched in 2021, and a third in Prince William County in 2023. Furthermore, In March 2024, a Google-linked company, Sharpless Enterprises, got approval for an 181-acre data center campus in Bristow, Virginia.
