Wheatland Solar Project in Indiana Starts Operations, to Supply CenterPoint in 20-Year PPA

Wheatland Solar project, a 210 MW utility-scale solar facility in Knox County, Indiana officially achieved commercial operations on February 27, 2026, according to developer Origis Energy. Wheatland Solar project is also supplying renewable power under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with CenterPoint Energy, supporting grid reliability and low-cost electricity for customers in CenterPoint’s Indiana service territory.

Why is Wheatland Solar Project in Indiana Important?

Wheatland Solar project is part of Origis Energy’s broader strategy to expand utility-scale solar across North America and deliver affordable, grid-connected renewable generation. At 210 MWdc (150 MWac) in capacity, Wheatland enters service at a time of rising demand for clean energy generation and heightened utility planning for decarbonization in Indiana – joining others like Bellflower Solar Farm. Origis’ solar project is also aimed at making the wider Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) region less carbon-intensive – as with the host of other clean energy developments in the region that are connecting to the grid.

The PPA with CenterPoint Energy, covering energy, capacity, and renewable attributes, also helps the utility diversify its generation portfolio and meets long-term customer needs for stable, cost-competitive power. Furthermore, CenterPoint’s resource planning has previously identified solar resources like Wheatland as essential components of future energy supply portfolios.

Project Finance

Project financing for Wheatland Solar project in Indiana included a mix of tax equity and debt, with tax equity provided by J.P. Morgan and portfolio financing supported by MUFG (Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group). Financial backing for the Wheatland Solar project reflects strong institutional confidence

Additionally, at peak construction, Wheatland Solar supported around 360 jobs, contributing to local economic development.

The project’s start of commercial operations also aligns with industry trends showing growth and financing appetite for solar assets in the U.S., even amid broader macroeconomic and global energy uncertainties.
