Venture Global LNG has officially executed a binding Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with Australian engineering giant Worley for the second phase of the CP2 LNG export terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. This major contract award marks a definitive transition from planning to execution for the expansion of what is set to be one of the largest liquefied natural gas facilities in the United States. While Worley was already engaged in the engineering and construction management for Phase 1, this new agreement expands their scope to full EPC responsibility for Phase 2, effectively handing them the keys to deliver the physical infrastructure required to double the facility’s output.
From Modular Design to Jobsite Reality
The choice of Worley reinforces Venture Global’s reliance on a modular construction strategy, a technical approach designed to bypass the delays often plaguing “stick-built” LNG projects. Unlike traditional terminals built piece-by-piece on-site, the CP2 facility utilizes factory-built, mid-scale modular liquefaction trains that are fabricated off-site and shipped to Louisiana for installation. For the jobsite in Cameron Parish, this contract means Worley is now responsible for the complex logistics of procuring these massive modules, managing the supply chain, and overseeing the heavy-lift integration on the ground. This method transforms the construction site into an assembly yard, significantly reducing the density of on-site labor and minimizing weather-related disruptions—a critical factor in the hurricane-prone Gulf Coast region.

Securing Capacity Amidst Global Demand
By locking in a Tier-1 contractor like Worley for Phase 2 now, Venture Global is aggressively de-risking its project timeline against a backdrop of tightening global supply chains. The CP2 project, located adjacent to the company’s existing Calcasieu Pass facility, is designed to have a total nameplate capacity of 20 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) once both phases are complete. Securing the EPC contract ensures that the specialized labor, steel, and engineering resources required for Phase 2 are reserved, preventing bottlenecks as the global race for LNG infrastructure intensifies—a strategic move mirrored elsewhere in the region as Saudi Aramco secures a long-term supply deal from the Commonwealth LNG project in Louisiana. For the local economy, moving Phase 2 into the EPC stage signals a sustained demand for skilled trades—welders, pipefitters, and crane operators—extending the construction employment boom in Southwest Louisiana well into the late 2020s.
