TROX is leading in the development, manufacture and sale of components, units and systems for the ventilation and air conditioning of rooms. With 29 subsidiary companies in 28 countries on 5 continents, 14 production facilities, and importers and representatives, TROX is present in over 70 countries.
The interaction between all technical building services can make or break the whole system. This is why TROX offers everything from a single source. Air handling unit and ventilation components complement each other perfectly. This results in maximum energy efficiency while the coordination effort during the design and installation stages for a project is reduced to a minimum.
Working closely with its customers, TROX develops specific systems that take the relevant criteria for each building into account and meet the requirements of its occupants. This close cooperation leads to sustainable solutions that help to increase people’s well-being and to protect life and the environment.
Construction Review magazine conducted an exclusive interview with, Charles Deacon, External Sales and Marketing Representative of TROX South Africa in regards to HVAC systems in Africa.
1. Which are the most common mistakes made during installation of HVAC Systems?
The most common problem we have seen is that when cheaper (sometimes Asian imported) product designs are used it leads to problems eventually. The TROX design of product and business revolves around our designs being the permanent or long term solution, and not a cheap aesthetically unpleasing alternative. If you buy cheap you buy twice. With regards to installation of our products, there are many different ways to install each of our products; there is no one correct way.
2.How can a user increase the efficiency of his HVAC system?
As we are a manufacturer and supplier of HVAC components, there are many steps at design phase that can be used to increase efficiency. From a TROX perspective we have correct performance data which results in correct product quantities and correct selections being done.
4.  What are the most popular HVAC products sold in Africa?
Our range is quite vast, also to be noted that we also purchase products from other TROX Subsidiaries if they aren’t part of our product offering. Some regular sellers would be our ADLQ Diffusers, EN/RN regulators, AWR Weather Louvres, AT Supply air grilles, AR Return Air Grilles, FDF Fire Dampers, JN Volume Control dampers, XSA Sound Attenuators.
5. What is unique about your products that make you stand out?
TROX Technik South Africa has been known for its quality internationally since its founding in Germany in 1951. So naturally that has continued till today. With 27 subsidiary companies in 25 countries on 5 continents, 14 production facilities, and importers and representatives, TROX is present in over 70 countries, founded in 1951 and with a staff of 3,750 employees around the globe. TROX is also known for its technical knowledge and innovation, which is why we are the market leader in our field and industry.
6. What is the future of TROX in the African HVAC market?
TROX is present in over 70 countries and with the construction of a mega test room at TROX Pietermaritzburg which includes a working area and a viewing area within this facility, extensive and sophisticated methods of flow visualisation and analysis of results will be used, to ensure products meet TROX standards or customer requirements, as applicable.
Test facilities include for the testing on air distribution, chilled water flows, heat/cooling load simulations, velocity tests, pressure calculations, etc. The result of this is that various new products can be tested and the performance of standard products can be shown.
