The state of Missouri is setting itself as one of the prime destinations in tourism and economic growth, with developments such as the expansion of Silver Dollar City. Silver Dollar City Parks & Resorts is embarking on a decade-long, half-billion-dollar project to develop 1,200 acres of land adjacent to the Ozark Mountain theme park. First up will be the Silver Dollar City Resort, billed as America’s Heartland’s very first theme park resort. For Silver Dollar City, this marks its single largest investment in its 65-year history.

More Details on the project
Silver Dollar City is investing $500 million in its new resort, with construction already well underway. The 262-room resort is set to open late in 2026 and will have dramatic Ozark Mountain and Table Rock Lake views, a full-service restaurant, 17,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, and both an indoor and outdoor pool. The new project will open thousands of new job opportunities and will lead to millions of visitors traveling to Missouri, said Governor Mike Parson.

This is more than growth-it’s a new era,” said Brad Thomas, president of Silver Dollar City Parks & Resorts. The new resort will marry Silver Dollar City’s spirit of craftsmanship, exploration, and playfulness to the unique charm of the Ozarks, Thomas added. This new development has taken into consideration the growth of tourism and the economy that the company has been able to generate for the Ozarks. “This project represents a major investment in our state’s future,” he said. “We are excited about the economic impact this resort will have as it brings new jobs and opportunities to Missouri.”

Silver Dollar City Resort’s Vision The resort represents the first part of the 1,200 acres surrounding the existing theme park scheduled for redevelopment. Brad Thomas made sure to dispel one crucial notion: that this was going to be an authentic-only-in-the-Ozarks destination. That number could expand as construction continues and Silver Dollar City announces more about its ten-year plans for attractions and facilities.
Resorts in the United States
Meanwhile, the United States continuous to grow as an industry for theme parks with other major projects lined up. Universal Orlando Resort will debut its highly anticipated fourth theme park, Universal Epic Universe, in May 2025. The theme park was designed to host several licensed themed lands, including Harry Potter, Super Mario, and How to Train Your Dragon. The amusement park has more than 50 different rides and experiences, and with those numbers, it is bound to be a juggernaut in the theme park world.
Karen Irwin, the president and COO of Universal Orlando Resort, said the new park would deliver an unforgettable vacation experience. “Our universe will never be the same,” Irwin said, signaling the high expectations for this new theme park addition.
