Leeds Bradford Airport expansion project’s phases and delivery
The folks at Farrans Construction are taking on a big job – they’ve been chosen to build the first phase of expanding the airport terminal. This initial phase is all about creating some key new facilities that passengers will use. Things like the immigration area for UK Border Force, the big hall where you’ll pick up your luggage after an international flight, more spaces for shops and restaurants, and enlarging the lounges for people waiting to depart on international trips. Once that first phase wraps up, they’ll move on to phase 2. That part will make the central search and check-in areas bigger, as well as expanding the duty-free shopping zones, other retail spots, and the arrivals areas. It’s an ambitious project, but if all goes according to plan, the whole construction job should be complete by 2026. Those airport-goers better get ready for some major upgrades!
In addition to the visible improvements, the project is also committed to sustainability and decarbonization efforts. This entails the installation of energy-efficient heating, lighting, and machinery, including modern baggage belts. The repurposing of existing structures from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s further aligns with the airport’s sustainability agenda.
Vincent Hodder, Chief Executive of Leeds Bradford Airport, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its significance for both the airport and the region as a whole. He hailed the commencement of construction as a momentous occasion, marking the culmination of extensive planning and consultation efforts. Hodder reiterated the project’s importance in meeting the evolving needs of passengers, airlines, and the wider community.
