The United States is one of the largest solar energy markets in the world, home to companies that have developed some of the biggest solar projects globally. These developers not only build massive solar farms but also help drive innovation, create jobs, and push the country closer to a sustainable, low-carbon future. Below is a look at some of the top solar energy development companies in the USA and their estimated developed capacity in the USA.

1. Lightsource PB

Estimated Developed Capacity: 3 GW of solar

Lightsource bp, a global leader in renewable energy development. Lightsource BP, rebranded from Lightsource Renewable Energy in 2018, is the largest solar developer in Europe. In 2024 bp completed its acquisition of 100% interest in Lightsource bp. In February 2025 Lightsource bp announced completion of two solar farms with a total capacity of 288 MW  in Texas while in Jones County the company currently has the 700 MW Jones City energy center under construction. making th company a key player in Texas.

2. NextEra Energy Resources

Estimated Developed Capacity: 2 GW of solar
NextEra Energy Resources is the renewable energy arm of NextEra Energy, one of the largest utilities in the U.S. The company is a pioneer in large-scale solar and wind development, with solar projects spread across multiple states, including massive sites in Florida, California, and Texas. Two of the solar projects we have featured that are in the companies stable include 265MW Dunnis Bridge and 200MW Indiana Crossroads Solar projects in Northern Indiana and the 100MW Point Beach Solar Energy Center project in Wisconsin. The company in August 2025 also broke ground on the the 150MW Rock Creek Solar project in Iowa.

3. Invenergy

Estimated Developed Capacity: 7 GW of solar
Invenergy is a privately held developer and operator of sustainable energy projects, including wind, solar, and battery storage. Invenergy has developed numerous utility-scale solar farms throughout the Midwest, Southwest, and Southeast, partnering with major corporations and utilities to deliver clean power. We have previously reported that Invenergy is constructing a solar panel manufacturing plant in Ohio that will meet half the the capacity of all utility-scale solar installations made in the United States. Soem of the solar projects in the company’s stable are the recently completed Darien Solar Project in Wisconsin and the Red Rock Wind Energy Farm Iowa that is currently at the approval stage.

4. EDF Renewables North America

Estimated Developed Capacity: Over 3 GW of solar in North America
A subsidiary of the French utility giant EDF Group, EDF Renewables North America has developed large-scale solar and wind projects across the U.S. The company specializes in utility-scale solar farms and solar-plus-storage projects. In August 2025 EDF reported that they had gotten clearance from the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) to move forward with its 220MW Eastern Cottontail Solar Project which when build will further add to the company’s overall capacity.

5. AES Clean Energy

Estimated Developed Capacity: Over 2 GW of solar
AES Clean Energy, a business unit of AES Corporation, develops and operates utility-scale and community solar projects. AES is also heavily investing in solar-plus-storage and other innovative grid solutions. In Hawaii, AES  operates at the largest solar power plant in the state – the Kuihelani solar plus storage facility.

6. Enbridge

Estimated Developed Capacity: Over 2 GW of solar

Enbridge is a diversified energy company headquartered in Calgary, Canada. In July this year Enbridge commited $900M towards the development of the 600 MW Clear Fork Solar Project in Texas to Power Meta’s Data Center. Enbridge is also developing the largest solar farm in Wyoming the Cow Boy I and II.

7. Matrix Renewables

Estimated Developed Capacity: Over 1 GW of solar

Matrix Renewables is a fully integrated Independent Power Producer (IPP). The company develops, builds, finances, and operates renewable energy assets across key markets, including Spain, U.S., UK, Italy, and Chile. The company currently has 5 solar projects inthe USA.

8. Cypress Creek Renewables

Estimated Developed Capacity: Over 5 GW of solar

Cypress Creek Renewables is an independent power producer and renewable energy developer. The company is currently developing the Carriger Solar project a 160-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, paired with a 63 MW battery energy storage system in Washington.

9. Arevon

Estimated Developed Capacity: Over 4.7 GW of solar

Arevon is a U.S. energy leader headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, and with a regional office in New York City. The company finances, builds, owns, and operates renewable energy projects nationwide with a strong track record in utility-scale solar and energy storage. THe company recently completed the $2Bn Eland Solar-plus-Storage Center in LA, California.

10. Silicon Ranch

Estimated Developed Capacity: Over 3.6 GW of solar

Silicon Ranch is a comprehensive energy company that develops tailored solutions in solar power, battery storage, and carbon management. It ranks among the largest independent power producers in the United States, managing a portfolio of more than 7 gigawatts of solar and storage projects that are operational, in development, or under construction across the U.S. and Canada. Silicon Ranch has partnered with Meta, adding to more than 1,500 MW of renewable capacity and over $2.5 billion in investments across four states to support Meta’s operations.
