SPOT LLC is a subsidiary of Globalstar, Inc, a US-based company that provides satellite messaging technology that allows users to communicate from remote locations around the globe. The SPOT product family uses Globalstar’s satellite network to determine a customer’s location and to transmit messages and GPS coordinates to others, including emergency notifications to an international rescue coordination centre.
Globalstar Europe Satellite Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Globalstar Inc, last month launched the SPOT Trace security system in Europe, Middle East and North Africa.
SPOT Trace is designed to be the ultimate anti-theft asset tracking device and is cost-effective and ideal for monitoring expensive equipment on construction sites. The device is geared to provide security to various construction equipment to reduce thefts. SPOT Trace also protects automobiles and other expensive items. The SPOT Trace device can automatically notify plant owners or site managers via email or text when any movement is detected anytime, anywhere.
According to the United Kingdom Home Office, plant theft costs the UK construction industry and estimated £400m each year. The launch of SPOT Trace will allow plant owners/site managers to view the GPS coordinates of their equipment on a Smartphone or online, in near real-time, using Google Maps. The device uses Globalstar’s dependable next-generation GPS satellite network to keep tabs on valuable plant – even in areas where mobile network coverage is poor or non-existent.
SPOT Trace’s is affordable and has a long battery life of up to 18 months making it ideal for tracking construction equipment left on site for extended timeframes, while its compact size and rugged design mean that it is durable enough to be mounted practically anywhere, and discreetly, out of sight of potential thieves.
SPOT Trace is very easy to set up and use. The device’s vibration sensor immediately triggers a movement alert to be sent to the site manager or other designated contact, via text or email, when it detects that the asset has moved.
SPOT Trace users can also set the device to track GPS coordinates at 2 ½, 5, 10, 30 or 60 minute intervals. Another key feature is the automated power-off alert, which continues to send GPS coordinates every day, helping site managers/plant owners to recover lost or stolen assets.
“SPOT Trace offers the construction industry a dependable, effective and highly affordable way to safeguard valuable equipment left on site overnight and for extended periods. With our solution, plant owners and site managers can monitor their valuable equipment 24/7, even on sites where there is little or no mobile network coverage,” said Gavan Murphy, Director of Marketing, Globalstar Europe.
SPOT satellite coverage spans the world, including Europe, Canada, continental United States, Mexico, Australia, Northern and Central Africa, much of South America and North-Eastern Asia as well as hundreds of thousands of miles offshore of these areas.
SPOT and all Globalstar products are available via two major re-sellers in Africa, VMD of Tunisia and Global Satellite of Morocco. These two re-sellers distribute Globalstar products across all of North Africa including Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Egypt and Sudan.
