East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) is yet to receive the first batch of 100 kilometers of pipes that will be delivered to the port of Tanga in Tanzania. They have also planned to conduct a flag off ceremony in order to mark this major milestone on 30 October 2030. According to Mr. Xie Leshan who is the PCK President, he stated that they are fully committed to ensure the timely delivery of the pipes during a meeting that was held with a delegation of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU).

The team visited Panyu Chu Kong Steel Pipe Co Mill in Lianyungang to verify and validate to China ahead of the timelines of the project for CNOOC (China National Offshore Oil Corporation). CNOCC is among the major players in the oil sector of Uganda and also the key operator of the Kingfisher Development Area. During the visit by PAU that coincided with the Belt and Road Initiative forum that as held in China, Mr. Ernest Rubondo and Mr. Liu Yongjie, the Chairman at CNOOC international met at the International headquarters situated in the city of Beijing on Saturday 21 October 2023.

This meeting that was held points out a very major development in the collaboration that is ongoing between Uganda and China in the oil and gas sector of Uganda. Mr. Liu and Mr. Rubondo also got to discuss the progress of Kingfisher project. They also held discussions the strategies that will be put in place in order to commercialize the oil and gas resources of Uganda and also draft ways in order to maximize the in-country value that will be generated by the projects that will be put in place.

East African Crude Oil Pipeline Capacity

EACOP is set to have a capacity that will be able to pump up to 230, 000 bbls of crude oil in a single day down a design of 1443 kilometers long smart pipe that will run all the way from the western part of Uganda to the Indian Ocean coastline that is located in Tanzania.

According to a statement that was made by PAU during the visit made by China symbolized the collaborative efforts between the two countries in the oil and gas sector having a specific emphasis on the conducting of major and crucial projects like Kingfisher, Tilenga and the East African Crude Oil Pipeline.
