Bunyoro Roads rehabilitation works are set to take place and some of the residents of Kakumiro District and the entire region of Bunyoro will now have a sense of relief after the government through the Ministry of Works and Transport released a total of Shs 15 billion to build and rehabilitate connectivity roads in the region. Some of the people of Kakumiro district stated that they were quite happy following the kicking off of the construction works for the roads of Kitaihuka, Nyalweyo and Kikwaya which are always impassable during the rainy seasons.
Mr. Lawrence Baraza who is a resident of Kikwaya praised the government for working at the poor roads located at areas of Kakindo, Kisenyi, Igayaza, Kabuhuma, Kisengya, Kaburungi and Butenga. He added by saying that the rehabilitation of these roads was indeed a relief as they were impassable during the rainy seasons and were quite a challenge to traders and patients seeking medical services especially expectant mothers. Mr. Yoram Kwikiriza who resides in Nkazakorera village also emphasized on the challenges that came as a results of the poor road conditions by saying that most of the expectant mothers were even unlucky to deliver on the roadside and that this rehabilitation works will be a blessing to them.The rehabilitation works on the Bunyoro Roads will allow easier movement of goods to the market and ease access to health amenities in the oil rich region.
China’s role in building Bunyoro Roads
Bunyoro region constitutes 14% of roads in Uganda and the government has declared its commitment to the construction and rehabilitation of access roads and inter-connectors in the area. The roads in the area were initially constructed by the China Railway Seven Group following a contract signed by the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and the Chinese company. Bugungu-Buliisa road, Kabaale-Kiziranfumbi road,Karugutu-Ntoroko road and Tangi Junction-Paraa roads are among the roads that were built by the Chinese company and will see rehabilitation works carried on them.
Other roads constructed by the China Railway Seven Group that will see rehabilitation works done on them are Masindi-Biiso road, Hohwa-Nyairongo-Kyarusesa road and Kabaale-Kizirafumbi road.
