Prospects are being explored for the construction of a 400MW Liddesdale wind farm project in Scotland. The project will be carried out by EDF Renewables in partnership with the local area. The site is located in Wauchope Forest and Newcastleton Forest, two commercial forestry regions in the Scottish Borders.
A scoping paper was recently filed by EDF Renewables UK to Scottish Borders Council for the proposed 400MW Liddesdale wind farm project. The facility could include up to 80 wind turbines of up to 250m in height that will be capable of generating electricity for up to 231,000 homes annually. As well as a battery energy storage system, and solar power.
The project team is starting an early engagement with nearby communities, community councils, and local groups. Elected representatives will also be involved even though the plant is still in its very early stages of development. In addition, the team will be present at the Border Union Show on July 28 and 29, as well as the Holm Show on August 26, in preparation for live community engagement activities later in the summer.

EDF Renewables UK development project manager Andrew Bennett said, “The proposed Liddesdale wind farm is still in the planning stages. More data needs to be gathered before a comprehensive concept can be finalized. The submission of the scoping report to the Scottish Borders Council is a crucial first step for the project since it enables us to start in-depth discussions with the local community about our idea.”
The proposed wind farm project in Scotland is considered as supporting Scotland’s objective to build at least 20 GW of onshore wind turbine capacity by 2030 and to make renewables account for 50% of Scotland’s total energy demand by that year.
