NCC, a Swedish construction company, has been awarded a turnkey contract to renovate and upgrade the Avicii Arena, an indoor multi-arena located in Stockholm, Sweden. The contract will be executed in partnership with Stockholm Globe Arena Fastigheter (SGA Fastigheter), a subsidiary wholly owned by the city of Stockholm. The value of the contract is estimated to be around Skr700m.
Originally named Stockholm Globe Arena, the venue was renamed Avicii Arena two years ago. It was established in 1989. It is also widely regarded as one of Sweden’s most popular event venues. NCC has a history with the arena, having built it in 2010, including installing the SkyView glass gondolas.
Mats Viker, CEO of SGA Fastigheter, expressed the organisation’s commitment to responsibly upgrading the iconic Avicii Arena in accordance with Stockholm City Council’s decision. SGA Fastigheter has engaged prominent international consultants to design the renovation. As a result, NCC is welcomed as a partner to ensure the arena continues to be one of the world’s most renowned venues.

Renovation of Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden
The contract encompasses the rehabilitation and refurbishment of the arena facility. Additionally, it focuses on enhancing its adaptability to deliver an improved audience experience. In addition, NCC will construct additional gondola lounges and a ring structure above the equator of the arena. This ring structure will facilitate the installation of a new rig and movable panels, further enhancing the venue’s capabilities.
The project is expected to be completed in early 2025, transforming Avicii Arena into a state-of-the-art facility. The contract will be included in NCC’s second-quarter bookings for 2023 under its Building Sweden business segment. Thus, it will reflect the significance of the project in the company’s portfolio.
