The Enugu State Executive Council has given the green light to a significant road rehabilitation expansion program initiative. We have earmarked approximately 1,250 kilometers of roads for rejuvenation, reconstruction, and expansion over the coming year. This announcement came after the State Executive Council meeting, during which the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Aka Eze Aka, provided essential insights into the project.
Initially, the rains delayed the commencement of road repairs because asphalt laid during the rainy season tends to have a shorter lifespan. The state government has resolved to construct roads with a projected lifespan of up to 30 years.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji assured that work would commence within the next few days and weeks, He also promised to adhere to the due process in executing these vital projects. Eng. Otiji, shed further light on the project. Under the first phase, a total of 71 urban roads and 10 rural roads will undergo rehabilitation.

The Enugu State road rehabilitation expansion program includes the Owo – Ubahu – Amankanu – Neke – Ikem road. It is a dual carriageway providing an alternative major traffic corridor to Abuja and the North Central market. The dualization of the Abakpa Nike – Ugwuogo Nike – Opi road. The Amechi Idodo – Amagunze road, the Ama brewery junction – Eke – Akama Oghe – Iwollo – Umulokpa road. Finally, the Akwuke Road in Enugu South LGA, among others.
The funding for these extensive road projects will primarily come from enhanced internally generated revenues. The government is intensifying efforts to boost revenue by plugging revenue collection loopholes and adopting an electronic ticketing system for transparency, accountability, and fund traceability. Enugu State is urging the public to cooperate with the Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue to ensure the smooth collection of revenue, which will benefit the masses.
