The Oyo state government has expressed its eagerness to collaborate with North China Construction Nigeria Limited in the rehabilitation of the Asejire Water Dam. This announcement came during a meeting. held recently at the Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan. It was between the Chairman of Oyo Water Corporation, Hon. Elias Adeojo, and a delegation of Civil Engineers

Hon. Elias Adeojo emphasized that the current administration in Oyo State, led by Engr. Seyi Makinde has embarked on remarkable developmental initiatives. These are initiatives that have positioned the state as a preferred destination for both local and foreign investors. He commended the governor for creating an enabling business environment. Additionally, he also expressed the state’s readiness to welcome additional investors interested in partnering with the government.

The Chairman also highlighted the substantial investments made by the Oyo state government. The investments enhance security, making the state an attractive prospect for investors worldwide.

The Main Source Of Water Supply To The Asejire Water Dam.

Ibadan primarily relies on two main sources for its water supply: the Osun Dam situated on the River Osun and the Eleyele Dam located on the River Ona. These dams serve as the primary water sources for the Asejire and Eleyele water treatment plants. Their combined design capacities contribute to nearly 80% of the total water production capacity in the state.

In addition to the Asejire and Eleyele systems, there are eleven (11) other water supply schemes. The schemes operate within the WCOS supply area. The majority of these schemes draw their water from dams. Except for the Iseyin (Koso & Atori) schemes, which rely on natural springs as their water sources.

During their respective statements, Chairman Wu Guoqi and Managing Director Dr. Osadebe Osakwe of China Construction Nigeria Limited disclosed that their delegation’s purpose was to explore a partnership with the Corporation, focusing on the rehabilitation of the Asejire and Eleyele Water Supply Schemes, along with other dams situated across the state. They expressed their readiness to collaborate with the government in reconstructing water reservoirs and laying pipelines to designated areas throughout the State.

Furthermore, they emphasized the significance of these projects for irrigation purposes, which would, in turn, contribute to boosting the state’s economy and generating employment opportunities.

In attendance at this crucial meeting were Mr. K.W. Mustafa, the General Manager of the Corporation, and several Directors of the Corporation. This collaboration represents a significant step toward revitalizing critical water infrastructure in Oyo State, ensuring sustainable water supply and economic growth.
