Balwin Properties has recently finalized arrangements for the construction of Shongweni Park in westown, an expansive lifestyle estate consisting of 1,260 apartments. This development will be situated within the Westown project, near Hillcrest in the outer west of Durban. It will complement the company’s existing coastal estates in Umhlanga and Ballito.

Westown represents a mixed-use area in a controlled urban setting, and it possesses authorized development rights for an estimated 520,000 square meters of bulk floor space. These rights began to take effect when construction commenced on Westown Square in August 2022.

Commencement date for the Construction of a Shongweni Park

Shongweni Park is scheduled to commence construction in mid-2024, and apartment prices are expected to vary between R899,900 and R2,099,900 for the different offerings.

The available options will encompass garden apartments with one, two, and three bedrooms. These units come equipped with substantial appliances like a fridge, gas stove, washing machine/dryer, and dishwasher, all of which are encompassed within the sales price. Moreover, all apartments will hold IFC EDGE Advanced certification, promising substantial savings for homeowners who qualify for Balwin’s Green Bond product throughout the loan’s duration.

Over the next four years, Shongweni Park will be integrated into the extensive Westown mixed-use development, a part of Balwin’s Classic range of lifestyle estates. This development will encompass 20 phases in total.

Shongweni Park’s amenities will include a 6-Star Greenstar rated lifestyle center, providing access to a fully equipped Training Science Gym, a children’s play area, a swimming pool, running/walking tracks, and the convenience of a concierge service covered by the monthly levy. Additionally, residents will enjoy on-site spa, laundromat, and restaurant options as part of this comprehensive lifestyle offering.

The name “Shongweni” derives from the iTshongweni language, meaning “column of smoke,” a reference to the Ugede waterfall near Hillcrest.
