The Inland Rail Stockinbingal to Parkes Project in Australia has officially been awarded the ‘Excellent’ Design rating from the Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Council.
Evaluation was based on the social, environmental, and economic performance of the project by the IS Council. The award serves as an acknowledgment of the project’s commitment to sustainable design practices.Â
While commenting on the project, the Inland Rail Program Director said that the ‘Excellent’ rating serves as a significant milestone. Furthermore, Melvyn Maylin noted, ensuring, that it will remain committed to innovation, industry leadership as well as sustainability.
Scope of the Inland Rail Stockinbingal to Parkes Project
As a whole, the Inland Rail Stockinbingal to Parkes Project spans from north of the rail junction in Stockinbingal. Thereafter, it stretches down to south of Goobang Junction in Parkes, New South Wales (NSW).Â
Its major construction works involve modifications to specific areas along the existing rail corridor. The works that were included in the IS rating were the building of a brand new crossing loop north of the Daroobalgie Road level crossing. Alongside, an increase in the vertical clearance that is under the Wyndham Avenue Road Bridge within Forbes.

Melvyn Maylin said that the crossing loop at Daroobalgie features 2.21 kilometers of a new track that has been built to the eastern sides of the existing track. The project will include replacement as well as extension of culverts. This in turn will, mitigate flooding, especially on neighbouring land. Moreover, the crossing loop will enable trains to safely pass each other while traveling in opposite directions.
Additional works and start of construction
Meanwhile, other works that the Inland Rail Stockinbingal to Parkes Project plans to carry out include modification of the Forbes Railway Station. Additionally, the project aims to increase vertical clearance along the Lachlan River rail bridge.Â
According to Mirage News, the major construction works will begin in late 2023.
