The proposed Alexandra Dock Multi-User Warehouse (MUW) Project at the Port of Liverpool will be carried out by Glencar. The construction company was appointed by the Port operator Peel Ports Group.
Construction is set to begin in the coming weeks and be completed by April 2024. The 400-meter warehouse facility (the length of up to five football pitches) will be located at Alexandra Dock. It will have 300 meters of quayside in addition to advanced cranes to optimise vessel discharge.
Significance of the Alexandra Dock Multi-User Warehouse (MUW) at Port of Liverpool
The facility will enhance Peel Ports Group warehousing and distribution offerings, enabling more sustainable port-centric solutions. It will have the capacity to hold both unitised and non-unitised commodities that require indoor storage.
With a focus on maximising storage volumes and discharge performance, the new warehouse aims to enable fast turnaround times for heavy goods vehicles.
Remarks on the development
David Huck, Chief Operating Officer of Peel Ports Group, expressed his satisfaction with constructing this purpose-built space at the Port of Liverpool. He highlighted the increased demand for warehousing.
Furthermore, he emphasised the new facility’s opportunity for new and existing customers to expand their business operations at the port. Huck also highlighted the benefits of the Port of Liverpool’s central location, which will provide cost, carbon, and congestion supply chain advantages.
