Following a competitive procedure, Penn State has chosen Populous as the architect and a joint venture of Barton Malow, AECOM Hunt, and Alexander as the construction manager for the multi year, multi-phase Beaver Stadium rehabilitation project. Nations Group, which has extensive experience in stadium restorations, was a crucial consultant in aiding with these picks.
Populous is a worldwide architectural firm with vast expertise in developing sports and entertainment venues. It was chosen as the architect of the Beaver Stadium refurbishment because of its track record of creating memorable shared human experiences that benefit campuses and communities throughout the world. Populous’ other recent projects include the restored Kyle Field at Texas A&M University and the new Buffalo Bills stadium, both of which are now under construction.

A combined venture of Barton Malow, AECOM Hunt, and Alexander Building Construction will spearhead the stadium’s extensive improvements. Over the last 20 years, the three corporations have collaborated on several sporting facilities. The joint venture team will oversee the on-site rehabilitation work at Beaver Stadium as construction manager.
Comments on the Beaver Stadium project at Penn State
Bill Sitzabee, Penn State’s chief facilities officer and vice president for facilities management and planning, stated that first development will focus on increasing priority safety and security, including crowd flow control, and field lighting performance. Winterization work will follow. This process includes pipe insulation and other upgrades to allow the building to be occupied when temperatures are below freezing. This will allow Penn State to host a College Football Playoff game beginning in 2024, as well as other potential events other than football games during the winter months, increasing revenue at the University and in the Centre Region.
