Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link have been under construction for seven years it is an important transportation facility in the Greater Bay Area of China. This giant infrastructure project spans 24 kilometer route which includes an undersea tunnel, bridges as well as artificial islands and is one of the largest and most challenging engineering projects in this region. It is near to open to traffic and it is estimated that the construction of the project would reduce the time taken on the road between Shenzhen and Zhongshan to between 20 and 30 minutes, hence, enhancing the accessibility in the Pearl River Delta area.

Project overview

The link includes the world’s longest and widest steel shelled concrete undersea tunnel that measures 6. 8 kilometers and two large bridges, including Lingdingyang Bridge, which is the worlds largest offshore steel box girder suspension bridge with a main span of 1666 meters. The tunnel and bridge structures have therefore been built in a manner that can withstand the ravages of the marine environment for over a century.

Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link will facilitate the economic transactions and regional development because the transportation of goods, services and people within the region will be eased. Here,  Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link aligns with the measures formulated in the 14th Five-Year Plan of China and underlines its relevance as a component of the improvement of the infrastructure and connectivity within the country.

To overcome the difficult geophysical and geotechnical conditions in the Pearl River Estuary, Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link employed state of the art engineering method and stringent safety measures. Successful conclusion of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link highlights China’s competency in the implementation of large-scale infrastructural projects and has defined a new paradigm for subsequent projects.

It links up with the underwater tunnel and achieves the construction of efficient linkage between the project and roads like the Coastal Expressway of Guangzhou-Shenzhen.

In addition to easing the daily travel of passengers, the opening of the link will also catalyse tourism, trade, and investment in the Greater Bay Area. The project will also consolidate the area through cutting the time required to move around and therefore create demand for business and tourism boosting the economic integration.

Scope

Upon its completion, the envisaged plan will allow the project to assume the strategic role of the core transportation hub of the GBA and support the formation of the “one-hour commuting circle” among major cities within the GBA, the group added.

In conclusion, one can state that it is possible to refer to the fact that the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link can be pointed out as one of the most significant strategic projects that demonstrate the state of engineering and the visionary approach to each project throughout China. This is a much better condition for the Greater Bay Area which is expected to provide complex connecting and networking functions in economy and society. Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is a show of the commitments of the nation towards the development of the infrastructure of the country, and it is a way of improving the welfare of the people of the nation.
