Sogea Satom which is a French company has collaborated with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to construct a US $96m water treatment plant in Kampala, Uganda.

The establishment of the mega water treatment plant will not only serve the growing population in the east of Kampala but will also alleviate water-borne diseases due to availability of clean water for domestic use and other consumption.

The French Government has continually shown its prevalent support and interest in the East African region by unveiling plans to cater for the water infrastructure investment in the east of Kampala. Sogea Satom is a major investor in the industrial sector and has played an essential role in establishing key typical projects in Africa, and this has eventually earned it a good reputation hence becoming a reliable force to be reckoned with.

Prior to landing the water treatment contract, Sogea Satom has been a key player in a number of projects in Uganda making it a reliable company to be picked up for the infrastructure development project.

The water treatment plant

Once complete, the water treatment plant will be able to produce 160 million litres of water daily. It is anticipated for completion by 2021.The Government of Uganda will financially support half of the project while the rest will be sourced from external avenues.

Sogea-Satom is a French company dealing in road construction, civil engineering and hydraulics.

  1. Comment: A number of pple have been employed in the project, a lot more have established hotels and shops to suply the workers, the fight is on to ensure that porverty and water borne diseases finaly bites the dust
