Maryvale Solar & Energy Storage Project is a hybrid renewable facility currently under construction near Wellington in New South Wales, Australia, within the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). The project combines approximately 240–243 MWp of solar PV generation with a 172 MW/409 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), enabling dispatchable renewable electricity to be exported to the grid at up to 172 MW. Once operational in early 2027, the facility will generate enough clean power to supply roughly 82,000 homes annually while supporting grid reliability through integrated storage.

The project also represents one of Australia’s first utility-scale DC-coupled solar-plus-storage installations, integrating solar and battery technology within a single generating system to deliver firm renewable energy to the National Electricity Market. Its development also comes as renewables continue to penetrate into sectors like mining as seen with Fortescue’s Solomon Airport solar farm. This is a shift from the traditional supply of renewable energy to homes and is also a reflection of the Australia’s embrace of cleaner energy sources.

Reported August 15, 2025 – This week in New South Wales, a new clean-energy landmark took shape. The Maryvale Solar & Energy Storage Project officially broke ground in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone. The hybrid facility will integrate a 243 MWp DC-coupled solar farm with a 172 MW/409 MWh battery energy storage system. It ranks among Australia’s largest sites using DC-coupled technologies to optimise output and storage management. The NSW region has both small solar farms like the 5 MW Narromine Solar Farm and much larger ones given a blend of both big and small.

A Secure Future Backed by Government

Importantly, the project secured a Long-Term Energy Service Agreement under NSW’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap. This agreement offers a price floor that underpins financing and reduces risk. The site sits in a state-designated Renewable Energy Zone known for abundant sunshine and strong energy infrastructure support.

Smarter Renewable Energy That Works on Demand

The hybrid’s DC-coupled design lets solar energy charge the battery directly, reducing energy loss. It enables scheduled clean power delivery when the grid needs it. Once operational, the facility will deliver up to 172 MW of dispatchable electricity. That is enough to power roughly 82,000 homes and to avoid about 615,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually. The project will also boost the local economy by creating up to 360 jobs during peak construction.

What Makes This Project Unique

The official groundbreaking occurred on 14 August 2025, marking a new milestone for regional clean energy. Gentari appointed PCL Constructions‘ Solar Division as the EPC contractor. Trina Solar will supply PV modules. Contemporary Amperex Technology Australia (CATL) will deliver the battery system. AEMO Services granted the LTESA, offering financial certainty. The facility will use lithium-iron-phosphate batteries with around 2.4 hours of storage on a 360-hectare site. Commercial operation is targeted for early 2027. It now marks Gentari’s growing Australian portfolio, adding to a total of 814 MW of solar and hybrid projects under development or operation.
