As we all know Africa’s construction industry is growing at a steady fast speed and management skills need to be applied day in day out to make it in a sector that is gripped with cutthroat competition.
As a first time construction manager has quite a few challenges in front of them. If they aren’t careful they can start there managerial position out in the wrong way. It can be difficult to provide a checklist of the things that a person should watch out for as every business runs differently. While offices are different, there are certain things that a new manager has to watch out for and the following are just a few things to monitor to make sure your first few months as a manager go smoothly:
1.Time management
Currently technology is really taking over and everyone is getting technology of his/her fingerprints therefore its becoming difficult therefore as a manager its hard to tell if someone is really working or actually he is just checking on whats happening in the world in the social media worlds.
Threofre it’s really good if you as a manager you get to know what your employees do so that they cannot waste the time of your organization hence affect your growth.
2.People Treating You like a Friend rather Than a Manager
As a manger learn to manage the ongoing work on the site and let people repect you as a manager not a personal friend.
It’s obvious that if they take you as a friend they will be really lacking that power to work as they will not talked you seriously when you make even changes in the organization.
This can become very uncomfortable especially if your friends take advantage of the fact that you are the new boss. A great saying for a manager that has friends in the office is “If you’d rather be fair than liked, then as a manager you are doing the right thing
3 Substance Abuse
The work hard and play hard mantra is adopted at many startups and even established businesses. While there is nothing wrong with this being an office mantra, there is a line that can be crossed if you aren’t too careful.
