Casablanca Airport Expansion Project

The new terminal at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport is being hailed as a “world-class aviation manifesto,” recently winning the prestigious international design competition in March 2026. Designed by a high-profile consortium led by the British firm RSHP (formerly Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners) in collaboration with Egis and ALA Concept, the “H-shaped” modular structure has garnered acclaim for its sweeping, undulating roofline that mirrors the movement of the Atlantic Ocean.

This innovative design prioritizes a “human-scale” experience, blending grand central spaces with tranquil “green oases” and traditional Moroccan craftsmanship, such as Andalusian geometric motifs and Atlas Berber patterns. To meet the critical deadline of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the project utilizes a modular, component-based construction system, with main structural works, led by a joint venture of SGTM and TGCC, scheduled for completion by January 2029. This timeline ensures the hub will be fully operational to handle an initial surge of 20 million passengers annually before the tournament begins.

Casablanca Airport expansion project takes shape following the award of an early works contract to STAM. This Moroccan construction firm, known as Société de Travaux Agricoles Marocaine, won the contract for site clearance and enabling works. STAM secured the contract following a MAD 294 million bid, which is about $29 million. The growth is part of Morocco’s efforts to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Portugal and Spain. The growth will raise the capacity and infrastructure at Mohammed V International Airport. Construction will take place in 2029, one year before the World Cup. The MAD 15 billion development will renew passenger facilities, streamline airport logistics, and develop flight handling. As the development takes hold, Morocco welcomes its readiness to take part in global activities and greater levels of tourism. Getting underway, this development positions Casablanca in position to become a flagship regional air center for North Africa.
