Meta and Reliance Industries have agreed to build a 168-megawatt AI data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat – Meta’s first hyper-scale campus in India. The new computing power will be right next door to Meta’s biggest global user base across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Under the agreement, Reliance will handle building the AI-enabled Meta data center inside its massive Jamnagar industrial hub. Meta will take care of the rest, covering the daily running costs, the immense amount of electricity needed and the water systems. The site is also engineered to expand way past its initial phase, giving Meta a dedicated home for its AI hardware.
Additionally, the announcement comes amid a surge in AI-related infrastructure investments worldwide, with hyperscale technology companies racing to secure computing capacity for next-generation AI models and services.
The Jamnagar development is also a significant milestone for both companies, building on an already extensive relationship that spans telecommunications, digital services, commerce and enterprise AI initiatives.

The AI-enabled data center will be located in Jamnagar, in the western Indian state of Gujarat. According to project details released by Meta and Reliance, the facility will have an initial capacity of 168MW, making it one of the largest AI-ready data center developments currently announced in India. Meta will lease the capacity from Reliance, with provisions allowing for future expansion as demand grows.
The project will be delivered within two years and will serve as a key component of Meta’s expanding global AI infrastructure portfolio. The tech giant is also replicating renewable-energy-powered-data-center strategy at its other facilities including those in the U.S., such Temple and Kuna data centers in Texas and Idaho respectively.
