The Asian Development Bank (ADB), an international development finance institution headquartered in Manila, has approved $350M for Maharashtra road projects in India.
The project aims to upgrade a total of at least 149 kilometers major district roads. Additinaly, as part of the project a total of approximately 319 kilometers state highways will also be upgraded.
Moreover, the Maharashtra road projects in India will factor in as well as incorporate disaster and climate-resilient features. Upon completion the project will include and promote social inclusion. Moreover, it will promote gender equality in highway programs, social, schools as well as health services.
Expectations for the Maharashtra road projects in India
Owing to the Maharashtra road projects in India, the state will link economic clusters and as a result ensure inclusive growth to further develop the state’s core road network. The beneficiaries will include Ahmednagar, Hingoli, Jalna, Kohalpur, Nagpur, Nanded, Nashik, Pune, Sangli and Satara. 5 km of major district roads connecting Nanded and Telangana will also be conststructed.

Additionally, the project will help connect underdeveloped rural communities with off-farm opportunities and market therefore reducing transport costs for small and medium-sized enterprises. Consiquently, this will improve access to health and social services and improve agricultural value chains.
In a statement, ADB said that it stays committed to achieving an inclusive, resilient, prosperous, and sustainable Asia. Additionally, the agency aims to sustain further efforts toward the eradication of extreme poverty.
