The Government of India alongside the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has invited bids for the construction of a two-lane road in Karnataka.
The cost of the project is approximately Rs 246.95 crore. The work includes the construction of a two-lane road and the upgrade of the existing road. The upgrade works will be carried out from 55,600 kilometers to 90,700 kilometers.
Moreover, the project includes the construction of two major bridges. This is because the road passes over the Kaveri river. The bridges will run across the Sharavathi Backwaters of NH-766C within the state.

The project for the construction of the two-lane road in Karnataka is expected to be completed within a period of 24 months.
An overview of the existing road in Karnataka
The existing part of the Karnataka road is also referred to as State Highway 17. It connects the cities of Bangalore and Mysore in the southern region of India. It passes through the towns of Maddur, Ramanagara, Mandya, and Srirangapatna, which is also known as Seringapattinam.
The Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) is responsible for the maintenance of the Karnataka roads. KRDCL was incorporated on the 21st of July 1999 as per the Provisions of the Company’s Act, 1956. The company is under the Public Works, Ports & Inland Water Transport Department.
Its mandate is to promote surface infrastructure by taking up roads and bridge construction projects. Additionally, its mandate is to improve the road networks by taking up construction widening and strengthening of roads, construction of bridges, maintenance of roads, etc. The projects it takes on are BOT, BOOT, and BOLT.
With the project for the construction of the two-lane road in Karnataka, the company aims to improve its road network especially, through the construction of competent as well as efficient roads.
