Work is advancing steadily on the Boankra Inland Port project, just after Justmoh Construction commenced work. Considering the pace of work, Justmoh Construction limited, the project’s contractors, was confident in completing the deadline in the first quarter of 2024.
Saddique Jarrar, the project manager for Justmoh Construction Limited, stated during a media interview that the company only started working on October 10, 2022, and that all indications suggest that the company is working steadily.
He disclosed that part of the area is flooded and needs to be stabilized by deep filling with rocks. This, according to Saddique Jarrar, will prevent the terminal from having structural problems in the future.
He said, “Before any building can begin, the terrain must be leveled. Through cutting and filling in order to create the terminal area.” The project manager responded that so far, no issue has been affecting their operations when asked if the organization has faced any difficulties since they began working.

Ghana: Construction of Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal launched
The government of Ghana has launched the construction of the US$ 330M Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal (BILT) which was initiated by the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) back in the 1990s, in a bid to create an extension to the Tema Port.
After approximately 18 years of a lull in getting a concessionaire for the BILT which was previously known as Boankra Inland Port, the Ashanti Port Services Limited, a consortium of Afum Quality Limited of Ghana and DSS Associate of South Korea, finally won the bid to bring life to the project.

The concession agreement will last for 30 years including a 3-year construction period for the development of various project facilities on 413-acre land in Boankra, a town in the south-central region of the West African country.
Features of the future Integrated Logistics Terminal
Upon completion, the BILT will be an ultra-modern integrated logistics terminal consisting of a Container Service Yard (CSY), Container Freight Station (CFS), Reefer, Warehouses, Truck Parking Area, Trucker’s Facilities, Fuel Station, Commercial Complex, Freight Forwarders Offices, and facilities for postal, telecommunication, utility services, among others.
It is expected to increase the movement of goods and services in the country and also facilitate transit trade between Ghana and the landlocked neighboring countries such as the republic of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
Backing for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)
Speaking during the sod-cutting ceremony, President Akufo-Addo said that the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) would be buoyed by the construction of the BILT which will ensure “an effective and efficient transport system, especially as Ghana is playing host to the Secretariat.”
The President was hopeful that the BILT and other similar infrastructure projects, such as the development of the Keta Port, the Tema-Akosombo Railway Line, and the ongoing port expansion projects in Tema and Takoradi Ports, would make a positive contribution in ensuring that Ghana derives maximum benefits from the AfCFTA.

Boankra Inland Port Project in Ghana to Recommence in August
Kennedy Osei Nyarko, a member of parliament for Akim Swedru, stated that construction on the Boankra Inland Port Project would begin in August 2022. He declared that his government would commence the long-delayed project.
The project’s engineering design and impact assessment were both concluded. This is according to the information provided by the chairman of the Parliamentary Roads Committee.
He said that construction on the Boankra Inland Port Project should be completed by August. The chairman added that the project would be carried out by Joshob Construction Limited. He claimed that the Boankra Inland Port project, which has been in the works for generations, would be constructed in August.

The developers, he added on his Facebook page, who are a combination of Korean and Ghanaian citizens, have received a $330 million concession from the government to work on the port.
He said that the actual work was slated to begin in October 2020. The project had to stall because of COVID-19, delaying the task. He said that the project was a part of a strategic transportation network being established. This was to provide import and export services to the country’s central and northern parts.
The Boankra Inland Port project was started in 2003 by the Kuffour Administration. The project had all its required feasibility studies completed in the same year. However, more than 15 years after the project’s inception, actual construction work has yet to begin to bring the project to light.
The project was resumed two years ago after the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo officially cut the sod. The representative stated that the government was still committed to seeing that the project was delivered.
