The Calueque dam, located in Ombadja district, southern Cunene province, built in 1974, will be rehabilitated and expanded this year. The US$ 225 million contract will last for 25 months and will have two hydro plants, a new channel and 21 irrigation pivots.
The consignment act to start the construction works took place in a ceremony presided over by the minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges. The infrastructure will enable to regularize the flow of the Cunene River and farming irrigation along the border with the Republic of Namibia.
